Conservas Nardin : Origins and Evolution

CONSERVAS NARDIN, S.L., although it was set up as such in 1995, is in fact owned by a family which has, for generations, been dedicated to the purchase and sale and transformation of fresh fish.

Its main activity is the elaboration of salted anchovies. It is here that all the family experience comes to the fore, since it was the great-grandfather of the current directors, Mr Oliveri, a Sicilian by birth and an expert in the salting process, who passed down from generation to generation the salting technique which is today recognised as being one of the best.

Salted anchovies were the origin of company activity, but, given the entrepreneurial spirit of the family, and bearing in mind that the elaboration of this product is only possible with fish caught by the Basque fleet in the Cantabrian Sea coastal waters, it was decided that the company activity should be extended to other fields.

The company began to produce anchovy fillets and white tuna in oil. Initially this small-scale production was supplied to nearby restaurants and shops, but the quality of the product soon became well known by word-of-mouth and in consequence there was a big increase in production, bringing with it more employees and better facilities.

The success of these products encouraged the company to bring in new products, which resulted in two new lines: vinaigrette and smoked products.

The excellent quality of all its products has allowed the NARDIN brand to be very well positioned in a demanding market segment, a market which appreciates the commitment and the way of working of this company.
